The blood and soul of Black Desert Online is progression, and the only true way to progress in this game is by increasing your attack and defense power (AP/DP) by enhancing your gear. How is this done exactly? Well, to be frank it takes a lot of fucking pain! All of that pain is worth it in the end as you feel yourself progress from a Velia Virgin to a One Combo Wonder slaughtering all in your path in the world of Black Desert. This BDO enhancement guide won't be your typical guide that covers the basics. We are taking EVERYTHING into account to help make your path to Pen just a little bit less painful. WHAT ARE YOU ENHANCING?There's a ton of crud in the game that you can enhance, but we're going to look at the gear that matters. Seriously you don't need to, nor should you, enhance every single piece of gear in this game. There are generally two paths of enhancement: Combat and Life. Combat enhancement focuses on your weapons and armor that you use and directly attributes to your attack power (AP) and defensive power (DP). This is the type of enhancement you will be exposed to when you first start playing the game with your Naru and Tuluva gear. From there your options really grow depending on the type of build you're going for. Lifeskill enhancing follows a different path from Combat enhancement as the materials used for enhancing comes from multiple copies of the gear itself. Jewelry follows this same rule as well. A bit confused? Let's say you have a Manos butchering knife you want to enhance to the next level. Well, hate to break it to you sweety, but you gonna need two of those suckers and some luck to have a better Manos butchering knife. It freaking sucks, but that's the way it is. Now, now you'll hear people say "Don't enhance anything. Just buy off the market!" How you think those enhanced items got on the market? Someone had to go through the hard work of enhancing that shit! Some items that are enhanceable you can't even buy off the market, while others hardly ever are registered on the market so you are going to have to enhance at some point after the main story if you want to progress your account. Since there's so many different paths of enhancement I'm going to break them down into their own handguides so you're not scrolling a million times down a single article. I have a bit more respect for your time afterall. RECOVERING DURABILITYWhenever you fail or force your enhancement your items durability will drop, and unlike repairs you cannot use silver to recover lost durability. Instead you need Memory Fragments to recover lost durability. So if you lost 30 durability while enhancing you'll need 30 Memory Fragments to recover that durability. Memory Fragments can be obtained by killing certain monsters and world bosses, as well as from the Black Spirit reward system. Combining Memory Fragments with Artisan Tears inceases the amount of durability each Memory Fragment can recover from 1 to 5. Only downside is that Artisan Tears are a pearl shop only item, and rarely given out as a reward or during events. Once the durability of an item is recovered you DO NOT need to repair it to continue enhancing. Recovery can become expensive if you're enhancing multiple items at once, so there is one other method you can use to enhance an item: by using the base of the same item to recover. In most cases this is not an economic option so whatever Memory Fragments you collect KEEP THEM!!!! Even if you don't plan on enhancing much, they are extremely beneficial to have on hand, as the prices they go for on the central market is over 1 million silver each!!! that's all you need to know about enhancement to get started. good luck on your gear progression journey my friend.
