"After playing for a long time, I have finally collected all the treasures!" Black Desert Online is an MMO that follows the philosophy of old school MMOs, like Runescape, where it's not about the destination but the journey. Avid players will normally phrase this as "it's a marathon, not a race", a testament I stand behind 100%. There are some long time players who have dedicated their years on certain activities such as class mastery, horse collecting, then you have people like Reddit user HeadHunter1956 (IGN: BashForFun) who has spent ages collecting every single treasure piece currently available in game. Treasure pieces in BDO are ultra rare items that provide quality of life perks to the adventurer brave enough to gather them, and these take years to complete thanks to the unforgiving rng that BDO is known for. Nonetheless HeadHunter1956 took on the challenge and shared the yolk of his work to the BDO subreddit. Knowing how rare such an achievement is I was fortunate enough to nab an interview with HeadHunter1956 on his treasure hunting journey, and insights he has for other adventurers working toward the same goal.
1. What made you decide to chase the treasures of BDO?"I think it all comes down to a combination of the benefits you get from the treasures and the fact that not many players have them. For example, the NOL doesn't give me much of a benefit because I am not a player who spends a lot of time regularly on the Sea however the fact that so few adventures have the NOL made me go for it. However, on other items such as the Map, Ring, or Telescope it was about the benefit I get from them." 2. Which treasure gave you the most trouble?"I think the Merchant Ring. The first problem I had with this treasure was that I was almost never able to get stable groups for Oluns especially for the timeslots that I was able to grind. Secondly Ash Forest is just not a very enjoyable spot for me and of course Ash Forest took me ages to get while all my friends were complaining about dropping only ring pieces and not enough debos I was dropping Debos but no rings." 3. If you could start your treasure hunting journey all over again, what would you do different?"I think I would probably try to divide my grind efforts more across the treasure spots. While it might sound logical to focus on one spot and dropping a specific piece before moving to the next spot this also makes for a very boring grind. So swapping spots more often, for example doing 1 day Paddix, next day Ash Forest etc. instead of doing multiple days in a row at paddix might have been more enjoyable." 4. What advice do you have for other adventurers chasing treasure pieces? "Never give up, and make sure to never look up the exact drop rates. It will only make you despair at seeing the low numbers." 5. If you could make your own treasure for BDO what would it be and how would it work?"Thats a very hard question. I think maybe an item that allows me to stack a very high number of pet food into it and that then uses this to feed my pets automatically. I hate to manually feed my pets so this would be great." 6. Which classes would you recommend for farming treasure pieces?"I personally think that there is no 1 fits all class: It's important that you find a class that you can play and enjoy grinding with for a long time and that you also are able to play PvP with (if you want to grind Arsha). So for example, I used my Sorc on almost every spot, with only a couple spots like Oluns where I used a Zerker."
