How you interact in the world of the Elder Scrolls Online can be influenced by which class you chose at the beginning of your playthrough. Even if you aren't roleplaying completing the Mages and Psijic questlines will feel different for a Sorcerer, just as completing the Dark Brotherhood questline will feel far more satisfying on a Nightblade. But where your class shines the most is in combat, whether it's for PVE or PVP. Each class is designed to accommodate an array of playstyles, and can be specialized even further depending on your role as a tank, healer or damage dealer. Below are a glimpse into each class that's playable in the Elder Scrolls Online. DRAGONKNIGHTFor those who love being the Dragonborn, but wishes they had more draconic abilities, Dargonknight is the answer to your wildest dreams. While technically not Dragonborn themselves, Dragonknights do carry the blood of the dragons within them to unleash their scorching and earth-shattering abilities. Dragons are known for having very durable skin and being hard to kill, and the Dragonknight takes this to the extra mile. Having the best defenses of any class available in ESO it's held up a reputation of being hard to kill even to this day. The strength of the Dragonknight, however, lies within it's Damage Over Time (DOTs) in it's kit. Many of these DOTs can be morphed for more damage or to increase healing, which makes Dragonknights excellent for playing each role without having to rely heavily on other skill lines to compensate. If that wasn't enough Dragonknights also have great crowd control abilities that aren't as accessible with other classes. More about the Dragonknight can be discovered in the button below. TEMPLARThe light that shines from the Templar derives directly from the sun, with it's warmth and sting. ESO's version of a Paladin, but much more flexible when it comes to dealing damage and having a beefy defense. Light is something that can reflect off of surfaces, and many of the Templar morphs involve reflecting damage back to it's source. This is what's kept Templar's top tier in the PVP community for years. It's greatest strength though lies within it's healing potential. There is no greater burst and heal over time (HOT) class than the Templar. The restoration line wishes it could punch out the heals that the Templar can, and this edge has made Templars the absolute best healers for any type of group. If you're one of those people who like to heal and deal damage you'll reap the reward of being able to self heal with your spammable, and reflect a lot of damage back to it's source without draining your own resources. Discover more about what the Templar has to offer below. NIGHTBLADEShade away into the night with the Nightblades hyper fantasy of all Ninja dweebs (I am including myself here). Being the first class to not have each skill line dedicated solely to damage, healing and tanking it is notorious for having a high learning curve that's only rivaled by the Arcanist. Not only do you get flashy stabby abilities, but invisibility is exclusive to the Nightblade. Invisibility allows Nightblades to take advantage of a lot of abilities that crit, or deal extra damage, when coming out of invisibility. If you like dealing massive damage in a short amount of time the Nightblade has you covered as it's the best single target and burst DPS option out of all classes. This is all thanks to Nightblade's passives that pair well with the Medium Armor skill line that has many beneficial perks for stealth and crit builds. I do warn that learning how to get used to this class will take months, but if you choose this as your first class as I have, then you will see the many benefits and niche playstyles that only the Nightblade can offer. Learn more about the Nightblade below. SORCERERSorcery in the Elder Scroll's franchise in general tends to be a bit different from the traditional sense of how an RPG defines a mage, and ESO is no exception to this. The power you're granted as a Sorcerer in ESO derives from the power of lightning, darkness, and daedric summons. It's the OG pets class that allowed you to have companions in a limited capacity. What makes Sorcerer's fun though is mixing up spells from different skill lines to make your own unique Sorcerer. How you practice your magic becomes your own trademark and style, and I love how Sorcerer's allow such flexibility while sticking to an arcane theme. Sorcerer's also tend to be very popular in endgame groups for trials and other difficult veteran content because their flexibility allows them to fill in for niche roles that coordinated groups need. This class has aged like a fine wine over the years and seems to only get better as ESO progresses into newer systems. One of these changes has made Sorcerers a staple in groups for years to come, the "Oakensorc". Dealing high amounts of damage with minimal effort is what Sorcerers are good at and it's why you see purple daedric eyesores at every single wayshrine you go to in the game. Check out what Sorcerer's have to offer below. NECROMANCERWhen Necromancers came out they were really a game changer when it came to coordinated groups. While not as flexible as Sorcerers when it comes to mixing up skills, their utility of using dead bodies and hard to find status effects is what makes them so damn useful. They're also the only class that can both use pets and utilize dead bodies to provide stacked healing and DPS, or you can have the best of both worlds. Necromancers also have amazing burst and critical damage potential that's enhanced thanks to their synergies. The main downside is that they suffer in the mobility department thanks to their undead abilities normally tethering them to a certain radius. Still this is advantageous for setting up big burst damage or for healers that need that extra room. Find out all the ways you can crush it with the Necromancer below. WARDENWardens have been the awkward red-headed stepchild of the available classes in ESO since it's inception. The amount of pets you can have with this class rivals that of Sorcerers, their heal over time was once the best in the game, and they are to this day the only class with a dedicated Frost skill line that's dedicated to the tank role. Warden was the solution to the Frost damage and passive department that was very lacking. However being laid out all over the board has given them an identity crisis for a while now. Most of their damage is bleed damage, which is great for PVP and boss fights, and if you are a nature lover you'll feel right at home with the Warden. Until their kit gets some much needed TLC Wardens are going to continue to feel underwhelming compared to other classes. That doesn't mean they aren't great at some things, which the button below can show you more of what I mean. ARCANISTAh yes, the new kid on the block. If you want a unique class identity that doesn't require outside skill lines then Arcanist has you covered. Their unique crux system allows for some very versatile gameplay, and if setup right, can become the Jack of All Trades class. The mechanics with the Arcanist does require a bit more thinking than most other classes, very similar to Nightblades. I'd honestly say Arcanist have the highest learning curve of any class in ESO thanks to their class design and the crux system. However, just like with Nightblades, if you can figure out how to master the Arcanist the possibilities are limitless. Since this is the newest class that was just released we're really going to be diving into discovering all the Arcanist has to offer by clicking the button below.
