Bastian Basking In The Woods /Blackwood/ ESO has become an MMO that covers a lot of ground when it comes to the zones that keep being added throughout the years. This is a good thing for many reasons, but for the modest crafter who chooses to gather their own ingredients it's a sandbox activity of its own. While it is technically possible to gather raw crafting materials in every single zone, this is not the most practical approach. I will show you the best areas you should focus your gathering efforts on to get the most out of your yields. If you are part of the PC Master Race, as myself, you can download the addons Harvest Map and Map Pins to save the location of each node you've visited and what type of node they are. blackreachA location not many would expect to be on their list, but Blackreach has a low concentration of enemies making gathering a bit more tolerable than most other places filled with lush fields. Sharing a feature with daedric realms most nodes will show up as "debris" instead of their traditional forms, so newer players may want to slow their roll when farming mats. The main reason you would want to gather in Blackreach is for the Crimson Nirnroot that's exclusive to the area. If you're in the Arkthzand Cavern you will find various dwarven enemies that drop crafting materials needed for Dwarven patterns. It's really a great place to tackle mat farming, dwarven farming, and vampires all in (relatively) the same area. If you're looking to catch Vampirism the Skyrim way it's the best spot to contract the disease as well. artaeumArtaeum is truly as peaceful and serene as it looks, and is the top gathering spot for most players due to the fact that over half of the zone has no enemy in sight. This unique gathering experience means that there is very high competition for mats at almost any given time. The key to success here is speed and when you decide to farm. Best gathering times are when most people are at work and during the witching hours of the night. The fastest gathering builds will be the most successful so stacking movement speed up to it's cap is the way to go. If you have the mythic item Ring of the Wild Hunt you will have the edge above everyone else. Several heavy sacks and provisioning containers are scattered throughout the zone as well so it's truly the Mecca of gatherers. I would even advise fishing in this zone to get Psijic waterlogged satchels that have a chance to drop the exclusive recipes for Takeaway Artaeum Broth and Artaeum Pickled Fish Bowl. For the antiquiters out there this is also your first stop when leveling up the Scrying and Excavation skill lines up to level 5. Artaeum is heaven for the multitasker that's for sure. rivenspireBet you didn't see this curveball coming. Despite it's depressing atmosphere, Rivenspire's nodes are highly concentrated so you are almost always footsteps away from the next node. This is one of the few locations in the base game where vampires can be found so if you refuse to pay for ESO+ this will be a good spot to harvest the Skyrim vampirism disease. Another positive is that Rivenspire tends to maintain a low population of players, so competition is relatively low in this area. The best spots to focus on when creating your own route is to stick near water features. Mats in zone love to practically hug each other along the riverbank. Just don't hang around for too long because this place literally looks like depression. bal foyenBeing one of the smallest zones in the game, and a starting zone to boot, Baly Foyen is a top contendor for best gathering spots in ESO. With nodes lying on top of each other, and a low population of enemies, it brings a lot of convenience to the table. Starting zones have an increased rate at which gathering nodes will repopulate and makes them great for veteran players with maxed out crafting skill lines to quickly farm some materials. As with Artaeum you can expect to find a good amount of competition when farming nodes, and you may run into players with builds specifically for gathering stealing every node possible. Only the fastest thrive in Bal Foyen. HIGH ISLEIf you are not afraid to dish out some DPS then High Isle will be a lucrative market for you. Not only are nodes bountiful in the jungles but you will also find the largest collection of giant clams in ESO along the shores. Most players in the area are usually questing or farming overland content so you don't have to worry about fighting off 10 other people to gather a couple of nodes. Being one of the later dlc zones in the game enemies do pack a harder punch here so you may want to come prepared to put up a fight to clear out a few areas. If you're looking to maximize efficiency then head up to the Flooded Coast wayshrine for the best clam route in ESO, and pick up some extra nodes along the way. Why do clams matter? Because they drop Powdered Mother of Pearl and Clam Gall, both ingredients that are required for the Artaeum recipes you should have fished up while farming mats there! Don't forget to pick up the heavy sacks and treasure chests for hassle free booty. craglornIf you're looking for a veteran hard mode on your gathering adventures then you've come to the right place. Speed will not serve you well here, but having a proper DPS setup will. Craglorn is littered with the toughest baddies from base game ESO so you need to bring your A game. Thankfully you can keep your Craft skill lines dedicated to gathering and some speed. This is also a place you will want to have dedicated farming routes to avoid large clusters of enemies that could really ruin your day. The big reward for farming mats in Craglorn is that each node, and creatures that drop medium armor mats, has a chance to drop Nirncrux. Nirncrux is a combinable crafting material that you can convert into either Fortified Nirncrux (armor trait) or Potent Nirncrux (weapon trait). Potent Nirncrux is the most sought after crafting material in game as it increases your weapon damage to any weapon you apply it to. It is also the most expensive crafting item in game, behind aetherial dust of course. This is a high risk high reward location for only the heartiest of gatherers. cryodiilThis would be the last place most players would event want to enter in the first place, but Cyrodiil is one of the greatest gathering locations in ESO. As long as you stay away from the roads, and avoid areas under siege you will rarely be bothered while farming mats. Cyrodiil is technically a PVX zone, as you can fight both players and non-player enemies (primarily daedra). Enemies in general are easy to avoid, and if you do feel the itch to fight something you can hit up the dolmens in the area that you'll most likely solo. The best reason to farm mats in Cyro is for the elusive provisioning recipe Colovian War Torte, which can only be found on green glowing Cyrodiil crafting nodes. This node is notoriously hard to find, so it tends to sell for millions on the market. Another rare provisioning ingredient you can only get in Cyrodiil is the Cyrodiil Citrus, a necessary ingredient to craft those Colovian Tortes. You can only get the citrus' by completing dailies from NPCs located in the various settlements across Cyrodiil. It is a great reward to help those who chose to stay behind and maintain these war torn towns from the Alliances and Daedra that rip apart the land of the lost Empire.
